Ritual

Group Exhibition

14th - 23rd August 2025

Repetition. Lather rinse repeat. Conformity, belonging. The gathering, the shared, the community. The thrum of a heartbeat. The drums, the drums beating in time in a rhythm. They gather around the fire. Witches gather at black masses. A spell is cast. Tension builds as hysteria rises and we know what will happen. We have seen it before, time and time again the wheel keeps turning and the year takes us with it in and out of each season. The ritual is about power, attempts to harness or influence. Rituals provide belonging, a set of rules to follow, structure into which we can fit or we can break. Collective power, movement, change. Can fertility be bought and sold through the ritual of dance. Can health be harnessed with the binding of bone with stone. Close your eyes and drink your coffee, breathe in, breathe out, the drum beats.

Ritual is a group show curated by In a Land to represent various interpretations of Ritual. Much of the origins of ritual revolve around fertility of the land or people, around the human impulse, or indeed need to influence natural forces. The collection of work we put together we felt showed an examination of how we interact with the land, as a resource and a friend.
