Explore the art of tiny stories in this playful, practical writing workshop, where we’ll experiment with different forms and approaches to writing very, very short fiction.
A story of 50 words or less can be as vivid, surprising and affecting as something many times its length. We’ll explore what writers can achieve in a very small space, looking at examples by writers like Franz Kafka and Joyce Carol Oates. We’ll reach back to traditional forms such as haiku and haibun, explore new forms emerging online, and consider inventive ways that tiny stories can be published and shared.
James Burt ran the Not for the Faint-Hearted writing workshops for more than a decade, during which hundreds of writers challenged themselves to produce multiple stories in a single evening. He also makes zines, produces an annual horror-story advent calendar, and has experimented with unconventional literary including origami.
No previous writing experience is needed.
