Ink Caps: Mycelium Writing Workshop

Step into the strange, creeping world of mycelium in this two-hour generative writing workshop exploring mushrooms, fungi and the hidden networks beneath our feet.
Through a series of guided writing prompts, we’ll use mycelium as a starting point for creating new work, looking at its visceral qualities, its environments and the rich symbolism that has grown around fungi across folklore, storytelling and culture.
We’ll explore the lore of mushrooms and their associations with transformation, decay, magic, poison, medicine and altered states, considering how these histories and meanings can feed into our own writing. We’ll also think about atmosphere and setting: the damp, dark places where fungi thrive, underground networks, decomposition and regeneration, and the strange forms and textures of the fungal world.
The session will focus on generating new writing rather than polishing finished pieces, using prompts and exercises to encourage experimentation and unexpected directions. You might leave with fragments, images, beginnings, strange little tendrils of ideas, or the foundations of something much larger.
The workshop is led by Bryony Good, an artist and writer whose practice explores folklore, landscape, the uncanny and our relationship with the natural world.
No previous writing experience is needed. The workshop is open to writers and artists of all levels, as well as anyone curious about using fungi, folklore and the natural world as a way into creative writing.
Please bring something to write with, either a notebook and pen or a laptop.
